The best part of my job is seeing the positive growth and change of the children over the course of time - Mr. Lovell (Middle School Social Worker)
Mr. Lovell was born and raised in the Bronx, NY, and attended NYC public schools before graduating from Westtown School in Pennsylvania. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and English from Emory University, and later a Master’s in Social Work from New York University. He began his career in child welfare and spent several years working across residential treatment, foster care, and adoption, community-based programs, and school social work. Mr. Lovell later earned a Master’s in Education from Touro College and continued his work at Opportunity Charter School as a school social worker. Throughout his career, he has obtained his NYS Social Work license, became an ordained minister and certified life coach, and earned his School Building Leader license. He is deeply committed to impacting the future of society and serving as an agent of change.
The best part of my job is building therapeutic relationships with the student. My kids. They are the reason I show up and stay! - Ms. Jackson (9th Grade Social worker)
- Ms. Jackson, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker with over 25 years of experience supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families—from ages 6 to 92. She is currently in her 18th year as a Grade Level Social Worker at Opportunity Charter School, where she is deeply committed to student well-being, family partnership, and whole-child support. Known for her down-to-earth style and genuine care, Sherrie believes that emotional wellness, self-advocacy, and self-care are essential—not optional. Her students describe her as kind, honest, patient, thoughtful, and respectful, and she takes pride in creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and supported.
When she’s not at school, Sherrie enjoys traveling, connecting with people, and loving on her animals. She lives by the belief: “If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything,” and brings that same grounded wisdom into her work with families—practical, real, and always with heart.
The best part of my job is that I get to work with some of the most amazing kids I’ve ever had the privilege of meeting. - Ms. Keenan (12th Grade Social Worker)
Ms. Keenan is a dedicated Licensed Social Worker with over 15 years of experience specializing in the social-emotional and behavioral development of students with diverse learning needs. Currently serving as a School Social Worker at Opportunity Charter School, she excels in delivering data-driven interventions and facilitating multidisciplinary collaboration to support students with disabilities and high-risk populations. Throughout her career, she has developed a deep commitment to crisis de-escalation, trauma-informed care, and the seamless implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). A staunch advocate for holistic support, Ms. Keenan bridges the gap between school, home, and community through parent training and collaborative partnerships, all while fostering student engagement beyond the classroom as a middle and high school track coach.
The best part of my job are the relationships I build with my students and their families. My students are my WHY for doing this work . - Ms. Pinnock (11th Grade Social Worker)
Ms. Pinnock is the 11th grade Social Worker and is in her 8th year at OCS. She holds a holds a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from Cornell University and an M.Ed. in Counseling and Personnel Services from the University of Maryland. Ms. Pinnock has over 15 years of experience working with students as a counselor, advisor, and college access coordinator.
