Welcome to High School Student Support Services.

Picture
The OCS Department of Student Services is made up of the Director, Assistant to the Director, two certified school counselors, and a Social Worker for each grade level (6th through 12th).  Collectively, these individuals work together to ensure that students are set up for Psycho-social and academic success throughout their tenure at OCS.  As a team, we use a supportive approach to ensure our students and families feel welcome in our office.

Students in grades 9 through 12 work with their guidance counselor to create, monitor, and update their academic plan based on individual academic needs and goals.  Families are always invited to become an integral component of their children’s academic pathways.  Outreach is provided to ensure the high school community is ready for college admissions assessments, college planning, and postsecondary careers
College and career readiness lessons and workshops are developed and implemented through 12th grade Advisory classes. These support students in gaining more information on postsecondary options in a supportive environment of peers and staff.  Counselors attend 504 and Individual Education Plan meetings to help students with special needs to flourish academically and be prepared for postsecondary options.  All students have the opportunity to attend local and overnight college trips so they can develop an understanding of the college experience.

All students in grades 6 through 12 begin preparing for postsecondary planning as soon as they become a part of the OCS community. Through career counseling, resume building, and internship training and volunteer placements, OCS students gain critical work skills that will put them on a promising career path.

Career Day and career fairs become a component of students’ career formulation, and they use these opportunities as ways to expand their knowledge of the vast career opportunities afforded to OCS students.  Specifically, students who are part of the New York State Career Development and Occupational Studies program will be able to earn the working hours needed for graduation and a postsecondary career.

"Through career counseling, resume building, and internship training and volunteer placements, OCS students gain critical work skills that will put them on a promising career path."
